New Years Eve 2012

Well here we are at the last day of 2012. Getting ready to ring in 2013 in a few short hours.
As usual I am spending my day surfing the internet for new ideas to crochet and working on  finishing up projects I have started.
I have been looking for a pattern to make a cat for my niece. She wants a crochet cat that looks like her Marley. The color part will be easy, but I am having a bit of difficulty finding a cat that I like. I have 2 patterns saved to my favorites that I will test over the next few days. I will make sure I add a photo of the one I choose.
I also have to finish up the football cocoon that I am making for my yet to be born grandson and I am also working on a tote bag. Something custom that I can carry my crochet things in when traveling. I take things with me wherever I go. You never know when you are going to have down time and you want to keep yourself busy.
I know I have no followers just yet, but I hope to get feedback from a friend on how to establish myself. I am also having a hard time figuring out how to add the blogs that I am following onto my blog. It keeps me busy trying to figure it all out!
Happy Hooking!

Snowy Days

It's a beautiful, snowy day. The photo is the wonderful view from my front porch. It's always a beautiful scene.
It's a perfect day for sitting in, sipping hot tea or hot chocolate, crocheting and catching up on a few projects.
I have a facebook page, crochetbyladyday, I have a few auctions on listia.com LadyDay213, and a store on etsy.com, crochetbyladyday.
I would love if people could go check them out and give me feedback. I am open to anything, positive or negative. Info will only help improve my venture.
I am working on finishing up a few projects that are partially done. I have a pink cocoon 1/2 finished, I realized that my cocoons are more 'boy' oriented and I need some inventory for girls. I guess I have been more partial to boys because my first grandchild is a boy. I am so excited waiting for him to arrive. I am also working on a 'football cocoon' for him. My daughter and her husband, as well as the rest of the family, are Philadelphia Eagles fans. I will line the cocoon with an Eagles receiving blanket.
I am also working on a crib blanket for him, Logan, I am making it in the colors my daughter chose for his room. Blue and brown with monkeys. I have to go to the store and get more yarn, I ran out so I am in a holding pattern with that.
Some time in the next few days I will start making 'mini baby booties' to decorate the tables at her shower. I found an adorable pattern at crochetpatterncentral.com.
As I become more experienced with blogging I will start adding links to the sites where I get my patterns, and start listing my own patterns.
I am working out on paper a pattern for a mobile with mini zoo animals on it. I will post a pic along with the patterns as soon as I have it complete.
Happy hooking!

Christmas 2012

I wanted to post about Christmas. Recently my crocheting has been centered around Christmas. I have been making Christmas stockings, ice skate ornaments, mitten ornaments, angels, reindeer ornaments, pot holders and polar bears.
The Christmas stockings are 3 styles, a larger one with a mitten pocket sewn on the side, and 2 smaller styles that are simple, plain, but still festive.
The pot holders are just that, pot holders in red, green and white.
The reindeer and polar bears are fun little amigurumi ornaments, to make them more 'christmasy' for lack of a better word, I put little scarves on them.
The ice skates and the angels seem to be the most popular at the craft show. The ice skates ornaments have paper clips for the blades, some have bows, some have fur embellishments. The angels are small and come in a rainbow of colors. I used white crochet thread and colored friendship bracelet thread to make these. The mitten ornaments are the same pattern that I used to make the pocket on the stocking, I just embellished them with sequins and snow flakes and attached them with a chain of yarn.
On Christmas eve and Christmas day, I handed out ice skate ornaments to both my family and my husbands family. I gave one to each household to put on their tree or wherever they would like it. They also make great decorations for your car. Hanging them on your rearview mirror decorates your vehicle nicely for the holidays.
As I continue to blog, and learn more, I would like to start posting photos of what I make. I will play around with that a little today.
The little ornaments, especially the ice skates, make great last minute tokens that you can carry in your purse and hand out to people as a small gesture of Christmas spirit. The mittens and angels work well for this also.
On Saturday, December 22, I set up at a craft show at the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation center. This was a wonderful event that the staff, Bernadette especially, put together so the residents who are less able to get out and about have an opportunity to interact with outside vendors. It was very nice to sit and talk with people as they came by the table and looked at the different crafts that were available that day. Many of the residents have the same interests in crafts that the vendors had and gave them an opportunity for them to offer their advice and experience. I think this is a wonderful idea and my hat goes off to them for providing this opportunity to both the residents and vendors. I was also able to meet other vendors and get some ideas for future craft shows.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a very happy and healthy New Year.

Introduction

Hello all. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Laurie. I recently created Crochet by LadyDay with encouragement from my son.
I had to stop working due to an illness and I am now home on disability. I was getting depressed and bored so I picked up an old hobby that I loved for years. Crochet. I started to crochet when I was little, I think around 9 or 10, maybe younger. I would pick up a hook and yarn off and on during the years but nothing serious. A few months ago, I decided to start to crochet again, but this time seriously. I started off making afghans for my family, and then started to try different patterns. I have accumulated so many items that my son suggested I start selling them at craft fairs. I enlisted my family and friends to help with ideas about how to market my product, a name for a web page, and other details. I decided to go with Crochet by LadyDay for two reasons. My father (a while ago) was teasing my email name and said I should change it to Ladyday, and when I thought of this, my second reason came, it rhymes.
I sat down and created a web page www.crochetbyladyday.webs.com, I created a facebook page, crochet by ladyday, and this blog.
I hope to reach not only others who love to crochet, but people who may not know how enjoyable this hobby can be.
I hope to build this blog by adding pictures of the items I crochet as well as some patterns that I come up with. I will also talk a little bit about me and how things are going.
I would like to thank you for reading my blog, and encourage you to please comment. I am always open to new ideas and any suggestions you may have to help improve my blog.
